Brother,

As the current Derby Daddy at Mississippi State University, I’m looking forward to kicking off our 52nd annual Derby Days on Saturday. Last year, Gamma Upsilon raised over $50,000 to support Catch-A-Dream, a foundation that grants hunting and fishing trips to terminally ill children. Our goal is to blow right past that $50k number this year.

To successfully do that, we’ve got to overcome some obstacles.

After hours of discussion and negotiation, the Sororities have opted not to participate this year. This is a change from the traditional Derby Day we all know and love, but it doesn’t change the heart of Derby Day: our charity. We have always wanted Catch-A-Dream to be the center of attention and this year we can make it happen. We have been handed the opportunity to do what Sigma Chi men do best: step up the challenge and show exactly what we’re made of.

We need your help. But first, take just a minute to watch this video. Then you may understand why we believe so strongly in Catch-A-Dream:

Trace, who you see in the video, succumbed to his illness shortly after last year’s Derby Day. However, before he passed away, he was an honored guest at our 2008 Derby Day events. He had a wonderful time and said he felt “like a rock star” standing on the stage. He even asked to come back the following weekend for an encore! That’s what it’s all about . . .

So how can you help make the ’09 Derby Days a success? It’s simple:

      1) Buy raffle tickets at $10/chance. We’re raffling a           Supernova Benelli Shotgun.
      2) Buy a Derby Day t-shirt.
      3) Make an outright contribution to Catch-A-Dream           in honor of Sigma Chi Derby Day.
